I have just returned from a Yoga retreat in Byron Bay and had the pleasure of learning about Ayurvedic practices. Some of the practices that I have incorporated into my life, and I invite you to try, are listed below.
Garshana is a traditional Ayurvedic technique of self-care dry massage, commonly referred to as “dry-brushing,” and is used for lymphatic massage to help to stimulate and reinvigorate the skin and lymphatic system, enhance blood circulation, and the release of accumulated toxins. To undertake this practice purchase a dry natural bristle massage brush from your local chemist or health food store, and when you are about to enter into the shower, brush your body to remove the dry skin. Ideally, move the brush toward the lymphatic system, so the arm brushes go toward the heart. The leg brushes go upward toward the groin. After dry brushing, enjoy a shower. Hot water Therapy. As hot water flushes through your digestive tract, it will assist in cleansing the entire tract and elimination system and help dissolve impurities. To try this practice, simply boil water and fill a thermos - ensure the water cools to a warm temperature before consuming, and sip the water regularly through the day.
Self Massage. The practice of anointing ourselves from head to toe with warm oil. Oil massage pulls trauma and stresses out of your cells. Massage yourself for at least 15 minutes. For a beautiful explanation of this process, please read https://drclaudiawelch.com/abhyanga-ayurvedic-oil-massage/
Please let me know if you would like me to share these hand out when you next visit me in the clinic. Alternatively, send me an email I will send you the information.
